Tradition is often associated with close-mindedness, narrow views, and bigotry. But tradition doesn't have to be this way. Tradition can instead show us that our own experiences are not new but rather common problems that our own ancestors dealt with. Tradition can also be a safe, predictable place to rest when our minds are overwhelmed by new information.

Tradition runs deep in the heart of Halloween, and as we get older, traditions can give us a ground to rest our feet on. Traditions often don't seem important until we leave adolescence and approach adulthood. When traditions due appear in our lives, they can be a mark of newfound maturity and comfort in the identity we've made for ourselves.
