You walk deeper into the yard. Innocence and compassion are important, but it is curiosity that puts them into action. Curiosity gives us the bravery to experiment, to try new things, and to wear different identities for a while before adulthood. It also puts kindness into action: can we really understand someone without the curiosity to ask questions? This is what the aliens are here to do.

Halloween is the ultimate time of year to safely explore parts of ourselves and ask questions about others. Usually a costume isn't random; it may reveal an aspect of the personality that is usually kept hidden. We also must be curious enough to consider what is behind a mask. The large octopus alien in this backyard is just as mischievous as the rest, but he is also benevolent. We must ask ourselves: is the officer with the gun raised engaging with this alien in a respectful, curious way?

You back out of the situation with a lot on your mind.
